For years, award-winning Chicago choreographers have
been creating dances audiences love. Now they put it
together on one magical night for one magical
extended view. This year's focus is hip hop, jazz
and tap dance. The evening is curated by industry
notables, Bril Barrett and Suave. This high-energy
show is titled MADD ConnXions!
Yes, two of Chicago's most prolific urban dance
choreographers join forces to bring you M.A.D.D.
ConnXions. Bril Barrett of
M.A.D.D. Rhythms and Suave of
Hip Hop ConnXion will Present Sole
Survivors and The ONE...Preview - 2 shows in 1.
Sole Survivors is the newest offering
from M.A.D.D. Rhythms and features
internationally-known tapdancers, Hip Hop companies,
percussive acts, poetry and the live music of
contemporary jazz quartet
Detour JazFunk.
The One . . . Preview is a sneak-peek at the wildly
popular and often sold-out urban dance show THE ONE.
Hip Hop, footworkin', breakdancing and tap are all
presented as representations of the diversity and
dynamic of urban dance.Once again, Steppenwolf
succeeds in another production of The Glass
Menagerie for its Theatre for Young Adults series.
The performances in this annual series are great
introductions to theatre, regardless of age. While
youth appropriate, they are not watered down. They
remain sufficiently meaty for adult viewers, new or
experienced.

FALL HARVEST
We’re in that transitional period where we no longer hang around outside in a leisurely way, but we also want to make sure that we milk the warm weather down to the last little ounce. So – here’s something great To-Do: enjoy the beautiful colors of Fall at Starved Rock State Park! Just a little over an hour and a half from the City (or, so it seems from the directions) and you can:
Experience the fun of outdoor adventure at Starved Rock State Park. Whether you enjoy hiking along the nature trails or viewing the many spectacular overlooks along the Illinois River, recreational opportunities abound. From picnicking to fishing to boating, from horseback riding to camping to enjoying winter sports, there’s so much
To-Do [emphasis added :)] that you’ll come back again and again.
Enjoy "The Colors of Fall" at Starved Rock - even on a cloudy day, it should be lovely! Take a break from the City (of course, there’s lodging available, too) and give Starved Rock a try! (Don’t worry – even if you stay in town, there’s an incredible amount of things To-Do!)
Get ready to dive feet-first into the season – put down a deposit on a ski trip! Sno-gophers is an African-American ski club that arranges local, national and international ski trips. If you’ve never tried skiing before, try a local trip. I promise that it will be exhilarating!!! Expect another season of local day trips to Wisconsin and more. You'll also have a chance to participate in the National Brotherhood of Skiiers events - all with the wonderful camaraderie of avid and rookie skiiers! Visit www.Sno-Gophers.orgfor their meeting schedule and stay tuned to Soleil's To-Dos for all their upcoming trips!
I stepped out of my theatrical comfort zone to check
out this experimental, avant garde performance. Glad
I did.
"Kafka on the Shore" riffs on our most primal
impulses and concerns - sex, violence, power, God,
identity, karma, fate, loss, love, meaning, freedom,
family - in a non-linear, non-literal fashion. Do we
dare face our most deep seated urges, no matter how
forbidden? How do we constructively manage them?
Talk about things that make you go "Hmmm." [continued]
